In Acheron, some individuals wield supernatural abilities The forms of magic are divided into five domains: Arcane, Fae, Spirit, Demonic, and Eldritch. While many dismiss occultism as folklore, true practitioners are rare and often secretive. Governments work to suppress its knowledge due to its unpredictable and dangerous nature. Each domain demands a unique price, whether mental stability, physical health, or fate itself.
Arcane magic is a raw, chaotic force capable of disrupting spells, destroying matter, and shielding its wielder. However, Arcane Mages risk their sanity as their minds become consumed by abstract metaphysical thought. Their power is fueled by Mana, replenished through meditation at Ley Lines or Arcane Nexus points. When successful, Arcane spells invigorate the caster, but failure can result in temporary blindness, making control essential.
Fae magic is the art of bending luck and fate, specializing in illusions, hexes, and probability manipulation. Practitioners, called Fae Hexers, seem naturally lucky, but each spell they cast unbalances fate, making them increasingly unlucky in return. While success grants resilience, failures induce vivid hallucinations, making the use of Fae magic a gamble with reality.
Spirit Mystics form deep connections with the spirit world, gaining access to wards, constructs, and life force manipulation. However, they risk infestation by parasitic spirits. Mystics attune to one of three Aspects of the World Tree—Leaves, Trunk, or Roots—each altering their magic’s effects. Attunement grants increasing power, but shifting between Aspects can cleanse harmful effects. Failure results in physical afflictions like bleeding, burning, or poisoning.
Demonic magic is violent and relentless, fueled by the caster’s own flesh and blood. Banes summon monstrous entities, unleash hellfire, and bind their enemies with suffering. Most who attempt this path perish or become twisted abominations. Killing with a spell negates its cost, and success grants brief regeneration, but failure inflicts painful burns, making every spell a dangerous sacrifice.
Eldritch magic taps into incomprehensible cosmic forces, trading sanity for forbidden knowledge. Evokers risk complete psychological collapse as reality itself warps around them. Their magic fluctuates with their mental state—sometimes increasing sanity loss, sometimes reducing it. Success grants temporary clarity and protection, while failure results in extreme mental distress, from panic to catatonia.
